We are a private Transitional-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade school located in the East Foothills of San Jose, California and in the heart of Silicon Valley. Admission Process

STEP 1
Attend a St. John Vianney Catholic School Open House

We would love for you to visit us so that we can get acquainted!  Visit the school by attending one of our Open House events. Please check our Calendar of Events for the next Open House events.

If you missed the Open House events or would like a private tour, email a request to our Development Director, Cathe Huynh-Sison, at development@sjvsj.org or fill out our Open House Inquiry online form.

STEP 2
Apply for Admission

APPLY ONLINE for 2021-2022 School Year

Students entering Transitional Kindergarten must be four years old by September 1st of the year they will be enrolled in school and be fully toilet trained.

Students entering Kindergarten must be five years old by September 1st of the year they will be enrolled in school.

A non-refundable $65 application fee is due with the application. You may choose one of the options below to pay this fee:

  • Pay Online

  • Mail. Be sure to write your child’s name in the memo section of the check.

  • Drop off the application fee at the school office. Be sure to write your child’s name in the memo section of the check.
STEP 3
Submit Application Supporting Documents

Applications will not be processed until the nonrefundable fee and required documents are received.Documents or questions regarding the admissions process can be sent to admissions@sjvsj.org.

Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten:

  • Mail or pay online the non-refundable $65 application fee.
  • Fax to (408) 258-5997, email to admissions@sjvsj.org, or mail in a copy of your child’s birth and baptism certificates.
  • Report of Preschool Progress (This form is for students entering Kindergarten only)

    • Give to your child’s preschool provider and ask them to complete the form
    • Submit via fax at (408) 258-5997 or email it to admissions@sjvsj.org

Grades 1-8:

  • Mail or pay online the non-refundable $65 application fee.

STEP 4
Apply for Financial Assistance

St. John Vianney Catholic School strives to provide an affordable Catholic school education to students. Three types of financial aid assistance are currently available:

  1. The Basic Fund is a privately funded program helping low-income families afford the cost of tuition at private schools. complete, and return it to the school. For more information please review the FAQ at www.basicfund.org or call Customer Service at
    (415) 986-5650. The Basic Fund scholarship is currently accepting applications and the deadline is March 31, 2021.
  2. St. John Vianney Catholic School Needs Based Tuition Assistance Fund The purpose of this fund is to provide tuition assistance awards from the SJV Catholic School Scholarship Fund, GAP, and private donors, to students presently attending SJV, as well as new students entering for the first time. The application deadline for the SJV Catholic School Scholarship Fund and GAP is on Monday, February 15, 2021.

    FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment conducts the financial needs analysis for needs based assistance for the upcoming academic year. Families applying for financial assistance must complete an application and submit the necessary supporting documentation to FACTS. Applicants can only apply online at FACTS (Español).The application deadline for the SJV Catholic School Scholarship Fund and GAP was on Friday, February 14th.

  3. For those that qualify, they will be forwarded to the GAP Scholarship.
Please note the following documentation is required once the application has been completed:
    1. Copies of your most recent Federal tax forms including all supporting tax schedules. (Final verification may not occur until your current Federal taxes are submitted. At that time, we can determine eligibility and monies for scholarships.)
    2. Copies of your most recent W-2 form(s)
    3. Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security
    4. Information (SSI), Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers’ Compensation, and TANF.

STEP 5
Readiness Assessment

In order to finalize the registration process, a readiness assessment will be administered to assure your child is ready for the rigor of their grade level.

Transitional Kindergarten:

There is no formal assessment for Transitional Kindergarten applicants.

Kindergarten:

Once your child’s application is complete (online application submitted, fee and additional required documents turned in to the school office) your child will be scheduled a time for the screening/readiness assessment.

Grades 1-8:

Once your child’s application is complete (online application submitted, fee and additional required documents turned in to the school office) your child will be scheduled a time for the screening/readiness assessment.

STEP 6
Decision Letters

Decision letters will be sent to families within two weeks of screening/testing.

Admission Criteria

All students determined to be “ready” will ordinarily be accepted in the following order as long as there is available space:

  1. Siblings of current St. John Vianney Catholic School students;
  2. Registered, active St. John Vianney Parishioners;
  3. Registered, active Catholics of another parish;
  4. Catholics who are not registered, non-participating or non-supporting members of a Catholic parish;
  5. Non-Catholics.

St. John Vianney Catholic School, mindful of their mission to be witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students of any race, color, and national and/or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities. St. John Vianney Catholic School admits children whose educational needs can regularly be met through its instructional program.
